Crow Runner
External 4G Antenna

The Crow Runner 2, Runner Pro, and Crow Patriot alarm panels use the LTEM-IP or GPRS cellular communicator module, which exposes a standard SMA Female antenna port. When the supplied stub antenna can't deliver reliable signal from metal enclosures, heavy construction, or fringe sites, this guide covers the correct external antenna and cabling.

About the Crow Runner Communicator

The Crow Runner 2, Runner Pro, and Crow Patriot are widely installed alarm panels across Australian residential and small commercial security applications. The LTEM-IP cellular communicator module provides 4G LTE connectivity from the panel to the monitoring station, replacing PSTN and GPRS monitoring paths.

The LTEM-IP module features an SMA Female external antenna port. In standard open-air installations the supplied rubber stub antenna performs adequately, but in steel enclosures, heavy construction, or low-coverage sites, an external antenna is required for reliable monitoring.

Common installation scenarios

Crow LTEM-IP in steel enclosure

The Crow Runner enclosure is steel. The LTEM-IP communicator module inside has its stub antenna shielded by the enclosure walls. A short SMA pigtail exits through a knockout to an external omni mounted on the enclosure exterior or adjacent wall.

Residential installation in heavy construction

Crow Runner installations in double-brick or concrete-slab homes with foil insulation can experience significant cellular attenuation. An external antenna through the wall gives the LTEM-IP module a reliable LTE monitoring path.

Commercial and small business premises

The Crow Runner Pro and Patriot are common in small-to-medium commercial premises. Steel frame construction and basement plant rooms create signal voids that the LTEM-IP stub antenna cannot compensate for. An external antenna resolves this at installation.

Post-PSTN 4G communicator swap

Existing Crow Runner systems previously monitored over PSTN require a 4G communicator for current monitoring paths. Where signal is marginal after fitting the LTEM-IP, an external antenna resolves the issue at first commissioning rather than on a fault callback.

Recommended D&G Products for Crow Runner

All antennas and cable assemblies individually tested. Custom cable assemblies quoted to site drawings.

DG900MB-HG — 5GNR Broadband Omni

Primary external antenna for Crow Runner installations with the LTEM-IP or GPRS communicator module. The module's SMA Female port connects via a short pigtail to this wall or pole-mount omni. Recovers signal where the internal stub antenna is shielded by the enclosure.

DGY900-6 — Yagi Directional Antenna

For Crow Runner installations at rural or fringe-coverage commercial sites. Aim toward the nearest Telstra or Optus LTE tower. The 11 dBi gain provides substantial link margin where the LTEM-IP communicator shows weak signal.

Why Crow installers specify D&G

100% tested, not sampled

Every antenna and cable assembly is tested on an Anritsu Site Master before dispatch. A marginal antenna on a Crow monitoring path is a fault callback — we remove that risk at source.

OEM supplier to the monitoring industry

Our antennas are inside ADT, Johnson Controls, and Wormald monitoring infrastructure across Australia. The same build quality and test standard is in every product we supply.

Custom cable assemblies

We build SMA connector cable assemblies in any length. LMR240 for standard enclosure-to-wall runs, LMR400 for longer conduit paths where insertion loss is critical.
