Lift & Elevator
4G Emergency Phone Antenna

AS1735.19-compliant 4G antenna kits for passenger lift emergency communication upgrades. PSTN is being decommissioned. Every lift in Australia must upgrade. We supply the antenna.

AS1735.19 requires 4G emergency communications in every passenger lift

Australian Standard AS1735.19 (based on EN81-28) mandates that all passenger lifts have a working emergency communication device. As the PSTN (landline) network is decommissioned by Telstra, 4G cellular is the mandated replacement pathway.

A 4G GSM gateway device is installed in the lift machine room. An external antenna — typically roof or external wall mounted — is required to achieve reliable 4G signal, particularly in steel-framed buildings or basement machine rooms.

Frequently asked questions

What antenna connector does a 4G lift emergency phone gateway use?

All major 4G lift phone gateways used in Australia — including the Pixel EM-4GE series, 2N EasyGate IP+, Robustel EV8100, and Avire DCP — use a standard SMA Female, 50Ω external antenna port. D&G's DG900MB-HG omni antenna connects via an SMA Male to N Male pigtail (30 cm standard, custom lengths available).

Is an external antenna required for AS1735.19 compliance?

AS1735.19 and the underlying EN81-28 standard require the emergency communication system to be operational at all times with a minimum 3-hour battery backup. An external antenna is not mandated by the standard text, but is required in practice for reliable 4G signal in steel-framed buildings, basement machine rooms, and any installation where the stub antenna delivers marginal signal. A failed emergency call is a compliance breach.

What cable length do I need for a machine room antenna installation?

Machine room cable runs typically range from 5 to 15 metres — from the gateway in the machine room to an external antenna on the rooftop or external wall. D&G builds custom cable assemblies in any length using LMR200 (standard) or LMR400 (low-loss for runs over 10 m). Specify your SMA or N connector requirement at each end.

Can one antenna serve multiple lifts?

Yes, when using a multi-port gateway like the Pixel EM-4GE2/4L (4 lifts) or 2N Lift8 (up to 8 lifts), a single external antenna is connected to the gateway unit — not to each individual lift car. The gateway aggregates all lift emergency phones onto a single 4G cellular connection.

What's the difference between the Pixel EM-4GE1 and EM-4GE2?

The EM-4GE1/1L uses a single SIM card, while the EM-4GE2/1L uses dual SIM with automatic carrier failover between Telstra and Optus. The EM-4GE2/4L adds multi-port capability for up to 4 lifts per gateway unit. All models use the same SMA Female external antenna port and are AS1735.19 certified.
