RF Connector Types
SMA · RP-SMA · TNC · N-Type
Most Australian alarm panels use SMA. DSC PowerSeries Neo uses RP-SMA. Centaur and Centair use TNC. Outdoor LoRaWAN gateways use N-Female. Getting the wrong connector means the antenna won't mate — this guide maps every major device to the correct connector type.

SMA and RP-SMA look identical — but they are not
SMA Male and RP-SMA Male plugs have the same thread and housing size. An SMA Male plug will thread into an RP-SMA Female port — but the center pin will not mate. You will damage the connector and get no RF continuity. Confirm your module type before ordering any pigtail or adapter.
Connector types explained
SMA Female
The most common connector on Australian alarm panel 4G communicators. Screw-thread coupling, 3.5 mm outer diameter, center pin in the Male plug. Standard on Bosch, Inner Range, RISCO, Hills, Ness, Paradox, Honeywell, and most lift gateway communicators.
RP-SMA Female
Reverse Polarity SMA — identical housing to SMA but with center pin and socket swapped. The RP-SMA Female port has a center pin (opposite to standard SMA Female, which has a socket). Standard on DSC PowerSeries Neo LTE modules and indoor LoRaWAN gateways.
⚠ SMA and RP-SMA look identical. Confirm your module type before ordering — an SMA Male plug will not mate correctly with an RP-SMA Female port.
TNC Female
Threaded Neill-Concelman connector. Same electrical design as SMA but with a larger, more robust bayonet-lock coupling. Used exclusively on Centaur and Centair alarm communicators — the OEM antenna for ADT, Johnson Controls, and Wormald monitoring systems in Australia.
N-Female
N-Type connector — large-body weatherproof connector rated to 18 GHz. Standard on outdoor LoRaWAN gateways (Dragino DLOS8N, RAK7240/7289, Milesight UG67, Kerlink, Tektelic). Also the port type on most D&G external antennas — cable assemblies terminate at N Male to connect to the antenna body.
